Wind Chill Warning Issued for Western Columbia River Gorge

By Cole Goodwin

The National Weather Service in Portland, OR has issued a wind chill warning for the Western Columbia River Gorge region, including the cities of Corbett, Rooster Rock, Multnomah Falls, Cascade Locks, North Bonneville, and Stevenson. The warning will remain in effect from midnight tonight, Wednesday 22,2023 until noon PST on Friday the 24th.

The warning is in response to very cold wind chills that are expected to hit the area, with wind chills as low as 10 below zero. The extreme cold poses a serious risk of frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are advised to take precautions while traveling outside, wear appropriate clothing, including hats and gloves, and limit their time spent outside.

Snow is forecasted for both the western and eastern gorge today through Thursday.

Numerous weather hazards are occurring from coast to coast today in the U.S. due to a large arctic air mass from Canada is interacting with an energetic upper-level pattern.

As a result, widespread heavy snow and freezing rain is expected to expand across the west coast for the next two days.
