The Dalles, Ore., May 5, 2026 — A 71-year-old Washington man is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly driving a semi-truck the wrong way on Interstate 84, triggering a rollover crash that injured two people Monday afternoon in Sherman County.

According to the Oregon State Police, troopers and local agencies responded around 4:04 p.m. May 4 to reports of a semi-truck traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-84 near Biggs Junction.

Investigators said the suspect, identified as Gary David Woods, 71, of Vancouver, Washington, entered the eastbound lanes from U.S. Highway 97 northbound and continued driving against traffic.

As emergency responders were en route, a crash was reported near milepost 103. Authorities said a Toyota 4Runner, driven by Armando Andre Robles Vega, 28, of Boise, Idaho, took evasive action to avoid the oncoming semi, resulting in the vehicle rolling over and coming to rest in the slow lane.

Robles Vega and a passenger, Demetria Ann Agrian, 23, of Boise, were transported to Adventist Columbia Gorge Hospital with visible injuries, according to police.

The semi-truck driver continued westbound after the crash, then turned around and reentered the correct lanes. The vehicle was later located near milepost 85 by an Oregon State Police sergeant. Woods reported chest pains and was transported by ambulance for medical evaluation.

Police said Woods was cited on multiple charges, including reckless driving, reckless endangering another person, felony hit-and-run, and fourth-degree assault. Additional charges have been referred to the district attorney for consideration. He was released from the hospital.

Multiple witnesses were identified in the incident, including individuals from Oregon and Texas.

The 4Runner was towed from the scene by Barnett’s Towing. One eastbound lane of I-84 was closed for approximately two hours during the investigation, and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
