October 7th, 2022- A customer of RainDrop Laundry accidentally drove through their storefront located at 2634 W 6th St in The Dalles at 9:38 a.m. this morning.

The laundry service which is known for its energy-efficient environmentally friendly commercial, residential, specialty, and wash and fold laundry services is run by Cindy and Steve Nimmo, and their daughter Jessie.

Cindy Nimmo said she was sitting behind the drop-off counter on the phone with Bohn’s printing when suddenly a car came crashing through the front door, scaring the daylights out of her.

“It was like a horror movie. I was screaming my lungs out,” said Cindy animatedly. “The poor woman on the phone with me told me to hang up and call 911.”

Cindy said it was quite the surprise.

“Cause I saw her pull in nice and slow and then she just hopped that curb,” said Cindy.

Additional curbs had been removed from the parking spaces in front of the business, leaving the sidewalk to serve as the only curb in front of the business.

Despite the fright, Cindy was in pretty good spirits when CCCNews arrived, even laughing, joking, and poking some fun at the situation.

“Yeah it was terrifying, but nobody was hurt,” said Cindy.

“And I asked the lady ‘well what did you do that for?’” Cindy laughed, a full laugh before continuing. “And she said ‘I don’t know I didn’t mean to.’ And I said ‘okay, as long as you didn’t mean to, I'm okay.”

“Life is messy,” said Cindy.

Steve Nimmo, co-owner of RainDrop Laundry, said that City of The Dalles Police and Bob’s Glass arrived at the scene almost simultaneously.

“Bob got here at almost the same time the police did,” said Steve with a laugh.

On Friday, Bob’s Glass intended to help the Nimmos get their storefront secure by boarding it up while they order necessary parts. Insurance will pay for the repairs.

In the meantime, Cindy and Steve joked that they’ll have an “open door policy.”

Steve said that despite the crash, the business will continue to operate during its normal hours.

“If we can’t put a temporary door in, if it’s just too hard to do that, then we’ll just put a note on the front, and customers that are dropping off can just call us and go to the back door.  That way they can still get their laundry done.”

RainDrop Laundry Service will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Their phone number is 541-769-1097.

Raindrop’s self-service hours at the laundromat next door will continue to operate on a 24- hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week schedule.
