TD Youth Soccer League Seeks Community Support with GoFundMe
by Cole Goodwin
Westside Metros FC, is organizing a GoFundMe campaign to bring more soccer goal nets to The Dalles area in Oregon. Locally, over 1,000 players share just four soccer goal nets. But with the help of the community Westside Metros hopes to add four more goal nets to keep kids active and engaged in the sport.
So far the local soccer league’s GoFundMe has raised $594 of it’s $14,000 goal.
The Westside Metros FC has been developing competitive players since 1993, some of whom have gone on to play at the highest levels, including Division 1, which is the highest level of college soccer in the United Stated, National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), which is the top tier of women’s professional soccer in the U.s. and Major League Soccer (MLS), which is the men’s professional soccer league in the U.S. and Canada.
Westside Metros FC currently fields over 50 teams, including four in The Dalles. However, with only four soccer goals available, it's becoming increasingly difficult for youth athletes age 6-18 to practice and play the game they love.
“These are great kids and they need community support,” said Saul Ascencio, 10B (boys) Copa Gorge head coach in The Dalles.
That’s why the group is encouraging Gorge soccer players, families, friends, coaches, and supporters to contribute any amount to their GoFundMe campaign. The additional soccer goals will be used on local fields, benefiting not only the Westside Metros FC but also other soccer programs in The Dalles area.
The Westside Metros FC believes that every child should have the opportunity to experience the joy of soccer and learn valuable life skills like teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance. The group hopes to reach their goal soon so they can bring more soccer goals to The Dalles area and keep youth active and engaged in the sport they love.
Overall, the Westside Metros FC is dedicated to providing opportunities for youth to develop their soccer skills and passion for the game.
“Our goal is to create a positive environment by using a holistic approach, where players can discover their unique gifts and develop them to their fullest, while learning from a dynamic and caring coaching staff,” says Westside Metros FC.
In addition to the GoFundMe campaign, the Westside Metros FC will be playing this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Wahtonka Field in The Dalles, Oregon. The game is open to the public, and supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer on the team.
