Spirituality and Environmentalism

The presence of religious traditions within culture easily lures one to accept the premise that human nature has a 'spiritual' dimension. Yet however spiritual ones aspirations may be, it is worth, I think, reflecting upon the overwhelming materialism practiced by 'US', that is leading humanity to the brink of destroying the very potential of our planet to sustain human life at least as we know it. What could be a better measure of how far that spiritual potential has been realized, and on that measure, I must conclude not much!
