Passenger Grabs Steering Wheel, Causes Rollover Crash on I-84 in Hood River County
Hood River, Ore. Sept. 3, 2024 — The Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 84 at Milepost 49 westbound in Hood River County.
Investigators said a red Mitsubishi Endeavor was traveling westbound in the left lane when the passenger, identified as Michael Gregory Nace, 42, of Clackamas, grabbed the steering wheel and pulled it toward him.
This caused the vehicle to crash into the guardrail and roll over, coming to rest on its roof and blocking both lanes.
Authorities suspect Nace was under the influence of intoxicants at the time. Both the driver, Brittany Lee Yuch, 33, and Nace were transported to Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
A search warrant was obtained for Nace’s blood, which was served without incident. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Rivers Edge Towing.
Charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, and third-degree assault will be referred to the Hood River County District Attorney's Office for consideration.
The Oregon State Police were assisted by Cascade Locks Fire and EMS, the Hood River County Sheriff's Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
