$3 Million Google Payment spurs city-county joint meeting on June 5

Contractors were installing fiber optic cable last week on River Road, causing a shut down of the street and detours. Google’s General Contractor Whiting Turner has approvals to start the second data center and the initial build payment of $3 million has recently been paid.

The Dalles City Council and the Wasco County Board of Commissioners will be meeting in a Joint Work Session on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024 at 1:30 pm in the County office building located at 401 East 3rd Street, The Dalles or via Zoom.

It is likely a quorum of City Councilors will be present.

The group will discuss how to use Strategic Investment Program money from Google through recent agreements for the two new data centers being built on former aluminum smelter property in The Port of The Dalles.

A crane used to lift coolers sits idle at the 3500 River Road Google site last week.

A $3 million initial payment, “signing bonus”, has been received thus far for the construction of the first data center, 3500 River Road.
