47 Votes Seperate Wasco County District Attorney Candidates

By Cole Goodwin

The Dalles, Ore., May 22, 2024 – With initial ballot counts showed just 100 votes separated Wasco County DA Candidates Kara Davis and Travis J Marston, an updated count at midnight narrowed the gap even further to just 47 votes separating the two candidates.

Kara Davis is in the lead with 3014 votes and 50.3% of the vote followed by Travis Marston with 2967 votes and 49.52% of the vote.

What triggers an automatic recount?

“We have several close races, but a contest has to be within 1/5th of 1% to trigger an automatic recount. This means the District Attorney race would have to be within 12 votes to trigger a recount,” said Lisa Gambee, Wasco County Clerk.

Although the County elections team wrapped up counting ballots at 11 p.m. last night the results aren’t final yet. Ballots arriving over the next seven days with a valid postmark will be counted and posted on Friday, May 24. And voters who forgot to sign their ballot, or whose signature was challenged, have until June 11th to contact the County Clerk’s office and resolve the issue.

Election day ballot counts are available on the Wasco County website at: https://www.co.wasco.or.us/departments/clerk/election_results.php
