Krista Cushman’s Guide to Spring Mushrooms community place based education presentation drew quite the crowd to the Hood River County Library Reading Room on Saturday, March 11th, at 2 p.m.

Cushman is a self described “a gardening, plant crazy, chicken loving viticulturist with a profound love for the Columbia Gorge.” She is also a writer who crafts fun fungi related zines. Cushman’s presentation went over the basics of the fungi identification process, what it takes to forage on your own and which spring mushrooms to watch for in the local area.

Spring mushrooms to keep an eye out for in the gorge this spring include:

  • Morchella (morels)

  • Boletus (Porcini or King Bolete)

  • Leucangium Carthusianum (Oregon Black Truffle)

  • and Tuber Oregonese (Oregon Winter White Truffle)
