Chuck Gomez of The Granada Theater in The Dalles is still laughing.
Has The Dalles become a hotbed for stand-up?
So far, so good.
Who would have thought a spunky 80-year-old named Dorothy Geary could light up Gomez like she has and packed seats in TD.
Geary of D&D Comedy in Portland has wrangled together a list of standup comedians that have been busting guts for several months now.
Geary even does a little stand-up to warm up the show.
She’s a pistol.
And Gomez is glad she’s shooting from the hip.
She is into her third month of bringing stand-up to The Dalles with no end in sight.
This week Alex Falcone will grab the spotlight at TD’s Granada on March 24 at 7 p.m.
And it doesn’t break the bank. You can get in for less than $16.47 a person if you go in a group of four.
Also on the bill are comedians Dianna Potter and Nariko Ott.
Past comedians such as Sean Jordan on Jan. 5 left audiences either laughing or peeing.
Falcone has appeared on Portlandia and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He was voted Portland’s Funniest Person in 2018 and had a Salt and Straw ice cream flavor named after him which, he explains, is one of MANY things he has in common with The Rock. These shows are a blast with a full bar and food options. And Gomez said he was happy to have D&D bringing such a strong lineup.
“Our comedy goes way back,” Gomez said, noting his theater in Watseka, Illinois provided debuts for comics such as Norm McDonald and Drew Carry decades ago. He also booked Ralphie May and Gilbert Godfrey.
“And now we have Dorothy and she is bringing in shows and it is going to grow,” Gomez said. “You saw the audience. Shows are planned for the next 3 months.”
