The Dalles, Oregon – Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) is pleased to announce that it will be breaking ground on its Navigation Center on March 24th, 2023. The formal groundbreaking event will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 24th on the Navigation Center site located at 2505 West 7th Street in The Dalles.

The Navigation Center, expected to fully open at the beginning of 2024, will serve as a multi agency service center and emergency overnight shelter. This one-stop resource hub will provide services that work towards eliminating poverty and houselessness in our community. These services include housing assistance, homelessness prevention, case management, Veterans services, utility assistance, home weatherization, physical health, behavioral health, Native and Latinx specific services. The agencies that will be housed at the Center include MCCAC, the Mid Columbia Center for Living, One Community Health, the Oregon Human Development Corporation, Nch’I Wana Housing, the Department of Human Services, the Columbia Gorge Health Council and its Bridges to Health program.

“The groundbreaking of the Navigation Center is a momentous occasion for our community,” MCCAC Executive Director, Kenny LaPoint said. “Collaborating and coordinating to provide services out of a single location will provide greater access as we work to restore hope and stabilize historically marginalized and/or underserved community members.”

The Navigation Center groundbreaking highlights nearly two years of fundraising, intensive planning and design work to get this new development ready for construction. Thanks to the funding and support from many community partners, this project is now coming to life. Project funders include the Oregon Legislature, Oregon Housing and Community Services, the City of The Dalles, Wasco County, Google, the Oregon Health Authority and the Mid-Columbia Center for Living.

The March 24th event will include speakers from many of the project funders and partners with the main highlight being the official groundbreaking and project name reveal. For more information on the Navigation Center project, visit www.mccac.com/navigation-center.
