The Dalles City Council recognized NORCOR deputy Alicia Talley for heroism in saving a drowning boy who had been swept away in the current of the Columbia River on July 6.

Talley received the commendation at The City Council’s regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 11.

Sherman County Sheriff Brad Lohrey, who was also in attendance in the ZOOM meeting, said the recognition meant a lot to the regional jail that operates in the Port of The Dalles.

“I appreciate that the City of the Dalles recognizing the work that Deputy Talley has done,” Lohrey said. “The City of The Dalles gave her this beautiful coin and this nice letter. Thank you for honoring her in this way.”

“Heroism should never go unrecognized, and I am privileged to give this to you, Deputy Talley,” responded Councilor Tim McGlothlin who was standing in for Mayor Rich Mays.

“I am very honored to have the quality of deputies that we do with Deputy Talley,” Lohrey said.

Talley was short in her remarks. ”Thank you,” she said.
