Travis, Katy, daughter Tallulah, dog Maple and Katy's mom Marla make their yard a family affair.

From The Dalles Beautification Tree Committee:

Travis Tastove and Katy Williams were recognized for a huge family effort to make their home a welcome site in The Dalles this August, receiving the Dalles Beautification Award.

Their house at 619 West 14th Street is a lush oasis. Travis, Katy, daughter Tallulah, dog Maple and Katy's mom Marla Williams make their yard a family affair.

Katy said she was stoked to find out the family won the award.

“For me, I spend so much time starting seeds in the wintertime, and sometimes I think why do I put myself through this as it gets overwhelming,” she said. “ But then it feels like people do see this as valuable. “

And Gorgeous!

There is nothing better than to walk by a well-kept and diverse yard and take inspiration and joy from it.

The yard is best described as an eclectic cottage garden inspired by permaculture. With a mix of anything from okra to pawpaw and towering pines, you can see the passion for gardening everywhere you look. Katy loves growing vegetables, herbs, and pollinators almost exclusively from seed. Travis enjoys tending to the eucalyptus, palms and an abundance of rare fruit trees.

Their daughter Tallulah and dog Maple like sampling all the garden snacks. Katy’s mom Marla shows off her green thumb with perennials, flowers, and garden design. This family highly values caring for the land and providing a welcoming environment for birds, bees, butterflies and critters of all kinds.

Congratulations!! Great job.
