Ballots must drop by 8 p.m.; Turnout an abysmal 26 percent; VOTE! says Clerk
The Dalles, Ore., May 21, 2024 — Leon Surber, 91 of The Dalles, above, collected ballots this morning at the ballot drop-off tent at the Wasco County Courthouse this Primary Election Day.
Nearby Wasco County Clerk Lisa Gambee was supplying support via coffee, and cookies from Melanie Brown. It appeared they were fueled by M & Ms.
It also appeared the forgone conclusion that President Joseph Biden and former President Donald Trump were the primary winners was not bringing any fire to the ballot box.
Even though five candidates are vying for Wasco County Commissioner, Position 2 and there is a heated race for Wasco County District Attorney between Kara Davis and Travis Marston, turnout stood at a little less than 26 percent this morning, Gambee said.
She implored locals to fill in their ovals and turn in their votes.
All is not lost.
There are still some hours left today to get your ballot in.
