About the Musical

The Rocky Horror Show (written by Richard O’Brien) is “a humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through to the early 1960s. The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist, Dr Frank-N-Furter, unveiling his new creation, Rocky, a sort of Frankenstein-style monster in the form of an artificially made, fully grown, physically perfect muscle man complete "with blond hair and a tan".”

Viewing Advisory: The Rocky Horror Show is not for the faint of heart or pre-teen children. Due to the sexual nature of this show Big Britches Productions recommends youth under the age of 16 should attend only at a parent's discretion.

Extremely Frank Dance Concert at The Ruins

Jamie Goetz

Join the Columbia Gorge Orchestra Jazz Collective Big Band for "Extremely Frank," featuring world-class Sinatra tribute artist Jamie Goetz on Saturday, Oct. 21, at The Ruins in Hood River. Jamie Goetz will perform the authentic 1930s-40s dance arrangements that audiences enjoyed when Frank was at his jazz-singing best. Tickets $25 adults ($15 CGOA members), $5 youth ages 10-17, free for kids under 10, tickets available at www.gorgeorchestra.org

About the event

Pop star, matinee idol, raconteur...for decades, Frank Sinatra was one of America's biggest celebrities. You know the hits: Strangers in the Night, My Way, The Best is Yet to Come, New York, New York...really, too many to list. And let's not forget the movies like “Guys and Dolls,” “From Here to Eternity” and “Pal Joey.” Then there are the Las Vegas shows, the TV appearances...Frank Sinatra was at the heart of popular culture.

Frank Sinatra began his career singing with big bands, and while we can't hop in a time machine back to the 1930s and 40s, CGOA can bring you the next best thing. Oh, and dancing is more than allowed...it's encouraged. So put on your porkpie hat -- Frank famously said how you wear your hat is all about "angles and attitudes" -- dress to the nines and enjoy the return of Old Blue Eyes, courtesy of CGOA.

 About the Book

“The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman

“IT TAKES A GRAVEYARD TO RAISE A CHILD.”

“Nobody Owens, known as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn’t live in a graveyard, being raised by ghosts, with a guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor the dead. There are adventures in the graveyard for a boy—an ancient Indigo Man, a gateway to the abandoned city of ghouls, the strange and terrible Sleer. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, he will be in danger from the man Jack — who has already killed Bod’s family. The Graveyard Book, a modern classic, is the only work ever to win both the Newbery (US) and Carnegie (UK) medals.
