Two Shows for Storyteller Will Hornyak

Storyteller Will Hornyak brings “Haunting Stories, Poems, Songs and Lore in Celebration of Samhain (Halloween) and the Day of the Dead,” to life in two area shows just in time for Halloween. Join the master storyteller for a “wild and harrowing romp through Mexican folktales, Irish legends and Greek myths,” on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the following venues:

The Dalles Library from 3-4 p.m. Bonechillers Theme (Family Friendly Show)

Ruins Haunted Humor Comedy Show

The Ruins in Hood River presents the Haunted Humor Comedy and Variety Show on Friday, Oct. 28, from 8-10 p.m. The show features James Anderson, Travis Cromwell, Bo Jones, Hunter Austin, James Mcleod, Rick Duncan and host Heather Styles. Special guests include The West Goats, and Jackolope and Moth Lady. It will be an evening of costumes, clowns, comedians and musicians “sharing the scariest art there is . . . comedy.” Admission $10 at the door.

‘Stage Door’ screens at Granada Theater

The Granada Theater in The Dalles presents a screening of “Stage Door,” Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22. “This 1937 RKO film starring Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, Adolphe Menjou, Gail Patrick, Ever Arden and Ann Miller features a cast of Dames that light up the screen and raise havoc in a female actor boarding house  - competing for roles, men and respect.” Free popcorn when you dress in theme for the movie. ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ coming to Bingen Theater

Big Britches Productions is collaborating with Ambiguous Theater for “a new and shocking version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of depravity, lust, love and horror.”  This version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” comes to the Bingen Theater in Bingen, Wash., on Oct 14, 15, 16, 21 and 22. 

“On the fog-bound streets of Victorian-era London, Henry Jekyll’s experiments with exotic “powders and tinctures” have brought forth his other self — Edward Hyde, a sensualist and villain free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comprehend. When Hyde meets a woman who stirs his interest, Jekyll fears for her life and decides to end his experiments. But Hyde has other ideas, and so the two sides battle each other in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse to determine who shall be the master and who his slave.”

Sense of Place lectures return to the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River starting on Wednesday, Sept. 19 and shows start at 7 p.m. “Sense of Place features presenters with a unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge and who consider the natural, cultural, and political history that has shaped this place. The presenters can include scientists, tribal members, authors, farmers, and many others from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The information and stories shared at these talks deepen our understanding of the Gorge and strengthen our connection to the landscape and to each other.”

Kaleidoscope open at TDAC

The Dalles Art Center presents a new exhibit: Kaleidoscope, by Sally Ann Kortge, opening Thursday, Oct. 6, from 5-7 p.m. The show runs through Nov. 12. “A Kaleidoscope is an instrument containing loose bits of colored material that change position to create an endless variety of patterns. Sally Ann operates as an instrument in bringing color, form, and material together in unexpected and creative ways. The immediacy and vibrancy in which she lives is infused into the artwork that she creates. As a self-described folk artist, Sally Ann has used an urgency of life created after surviving cancer to fully express her exuberant creativity that has been with her since childhood.” Her work has been described as fitting into the canon of non-conformers such as James Castle.
