Know Your Rights and Responsibilities: Mid-Columbia Housing Authority to host Landlord and Tenant Law Events Sept. 20th; Oct. 4th
By Cole Goodwin
Mid-Columbia Housing Authority, in partnership with Columbia Cascade Housing Corp. and the Oregon Law Center will host two bilingual Landlord and Tenant Law events in Hood River and The Dalles. The events will take place on September 20th at Westside Elementary School in Hood River and on October 4th at The Dalles Middle School.
Tenants who want to learn more about their rights as renters or are having difficulties with their housing are encouraged to attend.
“Many tenants are facing numerous challenges. Some of the most common challenges we hear about have to do with lack of repairs, retaliatory actions by landlords, and illegal evictions,” said Mari Ruth Petzing, an attorney from the Oregon Law Center
Petzing will present information, advice, and brief service and representation on a number of housing issues at the event.
“We will be giving a basic overview of landlord-tenant law, such as landlord and tenant responsibilities, fair housing rules, repairs, types of terminations, the eviction process, advice for protecting your rights as a tenant, and where tenants can get help if there are problems,” said Petzing.
The event is free to attend.
“The mission of Oregon Law Center is to achieve justice for the low-income communities of Oregon. OLC represents Oregonians at or below 125% of the federal poverty line. Our services are always free of charge,” said Petzing.
