Happy Tuesday! I want to apologize for the tardiness of this week’s notes coming out. The athletic department remains busy with scheduling and transportation changes, winter schedules, and scheduling officials for our various programs. Without further delay, let’s jump into this week’s notes!
The Week That Was:
-Last Monday, 9/27, our JV football team earned a big win against LaSalle at home.
-On 9/28, varsity volleyball fell to Redmond on the road 0-3, by scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-23.
-Also on 9/28, Boys’ varsity soccer beat Pendleton 3-1, while the varsity girls lost on the road at Pendleton, 4-2.
-On 9/30, the varsity volleyball team bounced back with a big conference victory against Gorge rival Hood River 3-1 with scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, and 25-21.
-Varsity football traveled to Pendleton this past Thursday, losing by the final score of 70-6.
-Closing out the month of September, Boys’ varsity soccer dropped their IMC matchup at Ridgeview 3-0, while the girls held serve at home, finishing in a scoreless tie with Ridgeview.
-Shoutout to Riverhawks’ cross country runner, Juan Diego Contreras, who won the Men’s 5000m race with a 15:36.8, only a second off the school record. Leo Lemann finished 11th, running at 16:53.7, and helped pace the boys’ team to a fourth place finish in McMinnville with a team score of 133.
-The girls’ cross country team finished ninth with a score of 210, led by Caitie Wring’s 18th place finish with a time of 21:04.4.
-Varsity volleyball closed out our week of competition, competing in the Roosevelt Tournament, beating Parkrose 2-0 by scores of 25-14 and 25-17, and dropping a non-league matchup with IMC rival Redmond, 25-9 and 25-17.
The Week Ahead:
-JV football dropped their game yesterday, Oct. 4, hosting Pendleton by the final of 36-6.
-Today, Oct. 5, Boys’ soccer hosts Redmond at Wahtonka, with games starting at 4:30 p.m.
-Also on Tuesday, Girls’ soccer travels to Redmond (675 SW Rimrock Way, Redmond, OR 97756). Varsity game begins at 5 p.m, JV begins at 3:30 p.m.
-Thursday, Oct. 7, is a busy day for TDHS athletics, as Boys’ soccer head up the river to take on rival Hood River, with varsity playing under the lights at 6:30 p.m, and JV starting at 4:30 p.m.
-Girls’ soccer hosts Hood River on Thursday, with both JV and varsity games starting at 4:30 p.m. at Wahtonka.
-Cross Country heads to Heppner on Thursday for the Mustang Invite (55805 Hwy 74 at Thompson Ranch). The Girls’ 5000m begins at 4 p.m. and the Boys begin their race at 4:45 p.m.
-Finishing our busy Thursday, the volleyball program is hosting a “Pink Out” night at Wahtonka against IMC opponent Crook County to assist in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Games on the Wahtonka campus kick-off at 4: 00 p.m. for JV2, 5:00 p.m. for JV and 6:30 p.m. for varsity. Let’s get fans out there and WEAR PINK!!!
-Finally, on Friday, Oct. 8, one of our communities’ oldest and most celebrated rivalries bring the Eagles of Hood River Valley to The Dalles to take the Riverhawks in varsity football action. It is a BLACKOUT event! Come to Sid White to support our football program by wearing your BLACK Riverhawks’ gear! Kick-off is at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
-Along with football hosting Hood River on Friday, it is always a great opportunity to come out and support our defending state champion cheer squad as they’ll be at Sid White, rooting on our Riverhawks and getting the crowd pumped!
-Also a reminder, THERE IS NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 8th!
Odds and Ends:
-Congratulations to TDHS senior football player, Jaxon Pullen, who was named the OSAA Football Player of the Week for his performance against LaSalle.
-Congratulations to the Riverhawks’ Volleyball program for their OSAA Sportsmanship Award nomination!
-Our new district communications director, Stephanie Bowen, has worked closely with the department to set up and launch our new TDHS Athletics Facebook page. You can follow that page by clicking here.

-Family Id is now open for Winter sports season sign-ups. Please make sure that you provide not only a primary telephone number, but a cell phone and email address to ensure you stay up to date on important notifications from coaches and the athletic department as needed.
-Winter Sports practices begin on Monday, November 15th.
-KODL radio, who broadcasts Riverhawks’ athletics, has changed one of their stations from 100.5 to 100.7 FM.
-Our website, riverhawkathletics.com, had the 17th-most views for all Oregon high schools, with just over 3300 views.
NWCSD #21 COVID-19 Athletics Protocols:
-For indoor sporting events, all guests, participating athletes, bench athletes, coaches, event workers, volunteers, and officials are required to wear masks at all times.
-For outdoor sporting events, all guests, bench athletes, coaches, volunteers and workers are required to wear masks. Game officials and participating athletes do not have to wear masks while competing in game-action.
