Candidate Filing Deadline for Mayor and City Council positions is August 30th

Candidate Filing Deadline for Mayor and City Council positions is August 30th

By Cole Goodwin

The City of The Dalles has three positions up for election in the November 8th, 2022 election: City Mayor; currently held by Rich Mays, City Council Position #1 currently held by Timothy McGlothlin, and City Council Position #4 currently held by Scott Randall.

All positions are four year terms.

The positions will be elected at the November 8, 2022, General Election.

Current Mayor Rich Mays and City Councilors Timothy McGlothlin and Scott Randall have all issued statements saying they intend to run again. At the time of writing all three candidates were running unopposed.

 Rich Mays

"I am running for Mayor again in order to have some influence regarding disposition of revenues derived from the various Google data centers, downtown redevelopment, continue with street and infrastructure improvements and helping our new City Manager and staff work to make our community grow and prosper," said Mays.

 Timothy McGlothlin

"Upon careful consideration, I have decided to seek the office of City Councilor position #1 for the City of The Dalles in the upcoming election," said McGlothlin. "We are facing many issues as we emerge from a global pandemic, rising inflation, and several unfinished projects that will have a major impact on the quality of life in the future of our city. I believe that my particular experience, skill set, and passion to serve will help me provide important leadership in the near future.  I also believe that I bring a voice of reason to the discussion and will continue to focus on important issues that we face…together."

 Scott Randall

“This is my last year with Corp of Engineers; I retire in early ‘23, and it will give me a chance to focus more on the City. I see Councilors Runyon and McGlothlin taking a lot of time to speak with residents, and I have not been able to do that as much. But I will in early next year, and I can be more focused on city issues and not distracted by my day job,” said Randall.

Randall is a maintenance mechanic at the powerhouse.

“I think there’s a lot of great potential for The Dalles you know. I am excited about the prospects of the hospital moving to Kramer Field and sports complex getting built and having that asset for The Dalles and continuing to improve streets, roads and community. I think our time has come; our day is here, and a lot of exciting things are happening.”

Minimum qualifications for candidacy include:

  • Being a registered voter

  • Having resided within the city limits for at least 12 months immediately before being elected or appointed to office

  • Having filed for only one position per election

There are two ways of filing a candidacy:

  1. Potential candidates can file a petition with 100 signatures supporting the candidate's candidacy. This has no cost. Potential Candidates must get the petition form from the City Clerk, petitions must be on forms provided, and numbered.
