The Dalles, Ore., May 28, 2026 — Mayor Richard Mays and City Councilors Timothy McGlothlin and Scott Randall will see their seats on the ballot this fall as the City of The Dalles prepares to open candidate filing for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election.

According to the City Clerk's Office, candidate filing opens June 3 for the mayor's position and City Council Positions 1 and 3. All three offices carry four-year terms and are elected at large by voters throughout the city.

The filing period was announced this week as the city released candidate information packets for prospective office seekers. The first day to file is June 3. Incumbents have until Aug. 18 to file, while non-incumbent candidates have until Aug. 25. The deadline to withdraw from the race is Aug. 28, and Election Day is Nov. 3.

Candidates must be registered voters who have lived within The Dalles city limits for at least 12 months before the election. Oregon law also prohibits candidates from running for more than one city office in the same election.

Prospective candidates may file either by paying a $25 filing fee and submitting the required paperwork or by gathering 100 valid signatures from registered city voters through the petition process. Petition candidates must first obtain approval and official forms from the City Elections Officer before collecting signatures.

The three positions opening this year are part of the city's staggered election cycle. Council Positions 2, 4 and 5 were last elected in 2024 and will not return to the ballot until 2028.

Candidate information packets will be available online and through the City Clerk's Office. Additional election information is available through the city's elections webpage, and questions may be directed to City Elections Official Amie Ell at amell@thedalles.gov or 541-296-5481, ext. 1119.
