CG Habitat for Humanity setting forms for 33rd house

Crews were out early this morning excavating and setting the forms for the foundation on the 33rd Columbia Gorge Habitat for Humanity home at 800 E. 13th Street in The Dalles.
Temperatures are expected to hit 97 degrees today, July 20, so there were a lot of early birds out this morning getting the heavy work done in cooler temperatures.
The family that will eventually own this three-bedroom, two-bath home must apply to purchase it. Their approval hinges on a decent income and acceptable credit, said Chad Krause, Habitat Executive Director.
Habitat carries the contract.
The vacant lot on Kelly and 13th Streets in The Dalles will see two, family homes in the future as Columbia Gorge Habitat for Humanity is working to create more affordable housing locally.
Habitat recently received approval from the City of The Dalles to split the lot at 800 E. 13th Street into two lots of 3,000 square feet each.
The property is zoned high-density residential.
With the partition, habitat “can put two families into homes,” said Habitat’s Corliss Marsh on April 22. “We’re just trying to help get more housing in this town. Lots are really hard to find.”
Habitat purchased the lot for $60,000 from Wylesha Wilcox in 2019, according to Wasco County Property records.

The house that originally stood on the property at 800 E. 13th Street burned down in November of 2015 and was home to the late John Doyle, a houseless person who passed recently at the age of 63.
