Comunidades commemorates Juneteenth
Comunidades will host a community event to commemorate Juneteenth on Sunday, June 19th at the Riverside Community Church, 317 State St Hood River, OR 97031. The event will start at 3 p.m. and will end at 6 p.m.
Recently, Juneteenth became a federal holiday to honor the day the full emancipation of African Americans in the United States. Comunidades has invited the wider community to participate in this event and reflect on the importance of this celebration for the Black community in the United States.
Communidades will have as special guest, Ophelia Noble from the Noble Foundation to talk to the community about Juneteenth. Our Senior Community Organizer, Ubaldo Hernández will talk about the importance of this celebration for the Black community and how our Latino communities struggle from similar issues and see this as an opportunity to learn from each other's experiences and strengthen our relationship.
For this event, Comunidades will supply refreshments and additionally will be giving away 40 food boxes with local produce to support members of the community in need.
