The Dalles, Ore., July 1, 2026 — The City of The Dalles is inviting community members to help name the new Downtown Plaza currently under construction on Federal Street. Designed as a welcoming public gathering space, the Plaza will provide a place for residents and visitors to gather, relax, attend community events, and enjoy downtown.

Community members are encouraged to submit names that reflect the history, character, culture, geography, or community spirit of The Dalles.

Community members may submit up to three proposed names. Each submission must include a brief explanation describing the inspiration or significance of the proposed name.

To be considered, proposed names should:

• Reflect the history, character, culture, geography, or community spirit of The Dalles.

• Be appropriate for a public gathering space.

• Include a brief explanation for each proposed name.

Duplicate or substantially similar submissions may be combined during the review process. Submissions that do not meet the contest guidelines may be removed from consideration.

After the submission period closes, City staff will review all entries for compliance with the contest guidelines before the Federal Street Plaza Ad Hoc Committee selects three finalists for a community vote. The final name will be announced during the Plaza's grand opening.

Name submissions may be made between June 30 and July 21 by completing the online submission form at thedalles.gov/PlazaName. For detailed contest guidelines and to submit a name, visit the online submission form.
