Corvallis man killed after car crosses center line, hits rear drive tires of semi on Hwy. 97 in Sherman County
The Dalles, Ore., Nov. 5, 2025 — A 66-year-old Corvallis man died Tuesday, Nov. 4, in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near milepost 43 in Sherman County, according to the Oregon State Police.
Investigators said that around 5:35 p.m., a northbound Chevrolet Impala driven by Eric Neal Barton, 66, of Corvallis crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the rear drive tires of a southbound International Harvester commercial truck and trailer operated by Preston Dejion Shepherd, 35, of Hanford, California.
Barton was pronounced dead at the scene. Shepherd was reportedly uninjured.
The crash closed portions of Highway 97 for about four hours while troopers and emergency responders conducted their on-scene investigation and cleared the roadway.
OSP was assisted by the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
