Delta Variant spiking COVID Cases In Wasco County; Just 44 Adult ICU Beds Available Statewide

The Oregon Health Authority’s daily report on COVID-19 cases in Wasco County shows a continuing rise as the Delta variant of the virus is outpacing peak numbers from last fall.
Wasco County registered 105 cases in the past three days, Aug. 23- Aug. 25.
The county registered 32 cases, according to the tally released today, Aug. 25th. There were 50 registered on Tuesday, Aug. 24th, and 23 cases on Aug. 23rd.
The previous high-count day for the county had 41 cases.
It gives a startling picture of how contagious the new Delta variant is. It’s a new peak in the pandemic for Wasco County even though more than 66 percent of Wasco County Residents 18 and older were vaccinated with at least one dose as of Aug. 13th, according to North Central Public Health District.
Statewide Look
In Oregon, 65.9 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, according to the OHA.
There are 20 new COVID-19 related deaths in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 3,086, the Oregon Health Authority reported at 12:01 a.m., Aug. 25th, according to the OHA.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 1,080 today, which is 80 more than Tuesday, Aug. 24. There are 295 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which is 12 more than yesterday.
There are 44 available adult ICU beds out of 662 total (7% availability) and 320 available adult non-ICU beds out of 4,256 (8% availability).
