About the Show
The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association is proud to present the musical sensation “Little Shop of Horrors,” directed by Joe Garoutte, with music directed by Dan Kenealy. Based on a cult sci-fi film from 1960, this “strange and unusual” musical is filled with fun and unforgettable tunes.
“Little Shop of Horrors” tells the story of Seymour, a down-on-his-luck florist, who raises a mysterious, possibly extraterrestrial, blood-thirsty plant that promises him fame, fortune and love…but at a cost. With infectious music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, this beloved musical is sure to entertain audiences of all ages. The musical was made into a smash hit movie in 1986, directed by Frank Oz, with a cameo by Steve Martin as a sadistic dentist. A staple of school, community and professional theaters, “Little Shop of Horrors” was recently revived off-Broadway, starring “Hamilton’s” Jonathan Groff.
Joe Garoutte and Dan Kenealy, the directorial team that brought you last year’s sold-out production of RENT, guide the talented cast of actors as they bring this dark comedy to life in a whole new way. The show promises to be a feast for the eyes and ears, filled with powerful vocals and a catchy pop score. While there’s more than a nod to the dark warnings that lie within, there are also plenty of laughs to lull you just enough to become plant food if you’re not careful.
Voci Community Choir presents Music From the Margins
CGOA Voci Community Choir presents Music From the Margins on Friday, April 14, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at Hood River Valley Christian Church (975 Indian Creek Rd.) in Hood River. Tickets are $25 for adults ($15 for CGOA members), $5 for youth ages 10-17, and free for kids under 10. About the Show
After centuries of neglect by the classical music establishment, composers from underrepresented, marginalized groups are finally gaining recognition, respect and, most importantly, performances. The Voci Community Choir is thrilled to join this exciting movement with concerts called “Music From the Margins.”
Directed by Corin Parker, the programs explore both historical and recent music by female, Black, Native American and other often undervalued groups. For example, the concert includes a selection by Vicente Lusitano, one of the earliest Black published composers from the European Renaissance. Native American composer and rock musician Valerie Naranjo is represented by a traditional chant, arranged by PSU
composer and conductor Ethan Sperry.
In addition to the choral performances, the selections will be introduced by members of the choir, giving context, historical background, and the meaning behind the music.

A Group Run sponsored by Gorges Beer Co. in Cascade Locks happens Saturday, April 15, at 10 a.m.
“You can choose between a 5 and 10 mile route - both will have a combination of roads and trail. The 5 mile option will head over to the Pacific Crest Trail Trail Head near the Bridge of the Gods, head up to Dry Creek Falls, then drop back down the trail along Dry Creek into town. The 10-mile option will go to Dry Creek Falls, then continue over on the PCT to Herman Creek before dropping back down and taking Forest Lane through Cascade Locks on the return trip. Whichever distance you choose, Gorges will be providing the first pint free. So whether you are a long-time fan of Gorges, or have been looking for an excuse to check it out, come join us for a group run and post-run gathering in the pub on Saturday, April 15.”
