Film on Christian Nationalism Comes to Hood River's Riverside on Oct. 17
From Riverside Community Church:
Hood River, Ore., Oct. 4, 2024 — Riverside Community Church will offer a public screening of "Bad Faith: Christian Nationalism's Unholy War on Democracy" on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
The film's producers say the film explores how Christian Nationalist leaders have spread fear and anger for decades, distorting political issues into Biblical battles between good and evil.
"Financed through the secretive Council for National Policy, Christian Nationalists have succeeded in taking over the Republican Party, turning it into a powerful weapon to demolish democracy from within," the producers wrote.
"The film also introduces us to the grassroots coalition of secular and interfaith leaders who have bravely confronted the forces that are threatening democracy," Riverside Pastor Vicky Stifter says. "The film's message is a timely one, as we near our November election."
Ken Burns, a documentary filmmaker called it, "A great and powerful and timely film, filled with the dread this moment engenders; the cynical misuse of religion to advance aims diametrically the opposite of Christianity's mission."
There is no charge, but donations are welcome. This screening is sponsored by Riverside, Bethel Congregational Church in White Salmon, and Spirit of Grace in Hood River.
Riverside Community Church is located at 317 State St. in Hood River. The film will be shown in the Riverview Room. Riverside is a United Church of Christ congregation.
