Motorcyclist falls asleep south of TD; Hyundai driver blames wreck on cruise control
The Dalles, Ore., Oct. 4, 2024 — A Missoula man survived a motorcycle wreck with minor injuries on Highway 197 just south of The Dalles on Thursday, Oct. 3, according to an Oregon State Police report.
Peter Marcus Minett was driving a 2011 Triumph at 2:55 p.m. when he rode off the roadway and turned the bike over landing in soft dirt and weeds.
“The rider said he must have fallen asleep,” reported Lt. Jason Calloway. “There were no indicators of impairment. The rider had no reportable injuries and refused transport to the hospital. The bike and rider were transported to The Dalles by passersby. The rider was warned for failing to maintain his lane.”

Wreck on I-84
A 28-year-old Washington man was cited for following too close after his Hyundai while in drive assist rear-ended a trailer on Interstate 84 on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 9:30 a.m.
“The driver of a red 2023 Hyundai Kona was traveling eastbound on I-84 near MP 117 in Gilliam County when he rear-ended the driver of a red 1997 Ford F-250 pickup towing a white 2021 travel trailer,” according to an Oregon State Police report.
“The driver of the Hyundai said he was traveling with his driving assist features activated to include his adaptive cruise control. He said the Hyundai accelerated and he rear-ended the travel trailer. The driver denied falling asleep but admitted he was not paying attention.”
The Hyundai driver, Sean Adam, 28, of Washington was issued a citation for following too closely. The Hyundai was towed due to damage by J&S Towing. The F-250 and travel trailer were driven away from the scene. There were no injuries reported.
