A fire occurred at Hot Wok Restaurant and Lounge located at 600 State St in Lyle, WA just after 1 p.m. on April 21st, 2023.
Lyle Fire, High Prairie, White Salmon and Bingen Fire Department responded to the scene. A Dallesport Medic was kept on stand by. Just over 20 responders answered the call for help
“There was smoke coming from underneath the floor,” said Lieutenant Tim Darland of High Prairie Fire Department.
“Crew's accessed the crawl space, using hand tools, thermal imaging cameras, and the crew's went thru multiple SCBA bottles. We appreciate Dallesport Medic for evaluating our firefighters after going thru that many bottles,” said Lyle Fire Department on their facebook page.
Firefighters were on scene for over 4 hours working the fire and making sure all hot spots were extinguished.
“Another great job saving a structure,” said Lyle Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, although some bystanders thought that it might be an electrical issue, due to the smoke rising from the floor. However fire crews have not confirmed the cause of the fire.
The restaurant, which first opened for business in January of 2023, was open and operating when the incident occurred.
The restaurant owners were visibly devastated by the incident.
They had just finished prepping the back patio and outdoor seating area for customers this week. Their hope has been to open up the outdoor seating this weekend.
However in light of today's events, the restaurant must be temporarily closed for repairs.
Firefighters and local alike were also saddened by the event and said they hoped the restaurant would be able to reopen soon.
“We hope Hot Wok are able to repair the damage quickly so we can enjoy some Chinese food again!” said Lyle Fire Department on their facebook post.
