Fire burning next to I-84 just west of The Dalles - May 29, 10:30 a.m.

The Dalles, Ore., May 29, 2025 at 10:15 a.m. — Oregon State Police and Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue have responded to a brush fire along Interstate 84 just west of The Dalles this morning, May 29.

The fire looks to have burned several acres thus far along the riverbank. Troopers have blocked off the travel lane closest to the river to allow for firefighters to work and access hot spots.

The fire season is well upon us as temps in the 80s and 90s are drying out grass and brush. Fires have broken out near Wishram on Memorial Day, Mosier also had a 2-acre blaze in town on Wednesday, May 28.

People should use extreme caution in tinder dry conditions as the gorge with high winds can quickly fan a small fire into thousands of acres of burn.
