Fire Crews Hold Lines as Burdoin and Snyder Canyon Fires Remain Uncontained

A helicopter drops water on the Burdoin Fire late last week.

Lyle, Wash., July 25, 2025 — Despite gusty winds on Thursday, firefighters held the line on the Burdoin Fire and made steady progress on the nearby Snyder Canyon Fire, with both fires remaining at 13% containment. Cooler temperatures, rising humidity, and calmer winds forecast for the weekend are expected to aid firefighting efforts.

The Burdoin Fire, burning east of White Salmon, has grown slightly to 11,249 acres. Fire crews focused Thursday on halting the fire’s advance through unburned “fingers” near Catherine and Major creeks, Lyle Snowden Road, Canyon Road, and a horseshoe-shaped area on the fire’s eastern edge.

Some crews were temporarily reassigned to the Snyder Canyon Fire — sparked by lightning northwest of Klickitat — but fire officials said structure protection efforts on the Burdoin Fire were unaffected. An additional hotshot crew has since arrived to support operations.

Resources assigned to the Burdoin Fire include five dedicated aircraft, 13 ground crews, 81 engines, eight bulldozers, and a total of 799 line personnel.

The Snyder Canyon Fire remains at 52 acres, thanks in large part to a swift initial response by local crews. Since Complex Incident Management Team Northwest 13 assumed command on Thursday, the fire has held steady in size, with ground and air resources reinforcing initial containment lines.

Critical Update Meeting tonight at The Dalles High School

Klickitat County Emergency Management will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Friday, July 25, at The Dalles High School Auditorium to provide critical updates and resources on the Burdoin Wildfire. All residents and affected community members are invited to attend. A virtual option will be available via livestream on the Klickitat County Emergency Management Facebook page at facebook.com/KlickitatDEM911.

Weekend Weather Offers Relief

Fire managers expect more favorable weather to continue through the weekend. Temperatures will be much cooler, with increased humidity and lighter winds — a significant shift from the red flag conditions seen earlier this week. These changes should reduce the risk of embers sparking new spot fires and allow crews to strengthen control lines.
