First First Friday in TD Draws good crowd, adventure in downtown

Matt Hansel, 40, who is splitting his time between The Dalles and Portland drew a good crowd to his shop Wines on Second at 316 E. Second Street on Friday night with some music by JR Tenderpaws.

Thirty small businesses in downtown The Dalles teamed up with their favorite makers and artisans for a night of local art, shopping, wine, food, connection and more on April 1st.
More than 60 small businesses extended hours on Friday night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Many stopped by the “Love Where You Live” First Friday event to meet local artists, bakers, musicians, jewelry makers, artisan foods and photographers who “popped up” inside downtown shops, restaurants, and bars for the evening to sell their goods and chat with customers.

Julia Bailey Gulstine did a wine tasting of their Loop De Loop wines from their vineyard in Underhill.

We enjoyed them all.

What an awesome event. Well done.

Wine is Fine and the music was sicker. JR Tenderpaws played for the crowd at Wines on Second at First Friday in The Dalles

Shion Mitsui, a fixture of the rafting world in Maupin, poured wine on Friday night at Joy Reyneke Photography at 421 E. Second Street. Joy meanwhile had two models who undertook some body paint so the she could demonstrate the countless ways of being captured in photos.

Shayna Rae, 30, of The Dalles works her airbrush skills on the arm of Mack of Salt Lake City prior to Joy Reyneke capturing them in photographs. Mack and another model were transformed through the course of the evening into vivacious fairies.
