Wasco County commissioner candidate Dick Schaffeld said the county must rethink how it spends public dollars, arguing for a more balanced approach that benefits the entire region rather than select projects or communities.

Schaffeld, who is running for Position No. 3 in the May 19 primary election, shared his views during a recent CCCNews podcast interview, where he addressed housing, wildfire preparedness, economic development and the county’s growing revenue from data centers.

Local Child Care development killed; $20 Million in Federal Funds Suspended

The Columbia Gorge Early Learning & Resilience Center (ELRC) has been a project long in the making.  The intent of the project is to remodel Chenowith Middle School on the west side of The Dalles,  Oregon, to allow for community-based supports and transform it into a child care center for up to 200  children.

First First Friday in TD Draws good crowd, adventure in downtown


Many stopped by the “Love Where You Live” First Friday event to meet local artists, bakers, musicians, jewelry makers, artisan foods and photographers who “popped up” inside downtown shops, restaurants, and bars for the evening to sell their goods and chat with customers.
