The City of The Dalles Public Works Department has announced that it will begin the first phase of a storm water catch basin project on E. 4th Street and Union Street on March 20, 2023. The project's first construction area will be on E. 4th Street between Union and Court Streets, and the work is expected to be completed on March 22, 2023.

During work hours, which are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., no through traffic will be allowed in either direction on E. 4th Street between Union and Court Streets. Motorists and bicyclists are advised to take alternate routes, such as E. 3rd Street or E. 5th Street. Sidewalks and crosswalks, however, will remain open during the construction.

On March 22, 2023, the second phase of the project will commence on Union Street between 4th and 5th Streets, and it is expected to be completed on March 24, 2023. During this period, no through traffic in either direction on Union Street will be allowed between 4th and 5th Streets. The detour route for motorists will be Court Street.

It is important to note that all lanes will be open to traffic at night, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Additionally, the road closures will affect only motorists and bicyclists. Pedestrians can continue to use sidewalks and crosswalks during the construction period.

The City of The Dalles Public Works Department has advised travelers to use alternate routes whenever possible and exercise caution if they must travel through the construction area. Temporary traffic control devices will be in place, and motorists are urged to follow them for their own safety.
