Comprehensive Parent Education Program launched in the Mid-Columbia Region

From Four Rivers Family:

The Dalles, Ore., Jan. 19, 2024 — In a positive step for our region, Four Rivers Family, a nonprofit organization focused on providing tools and resources to families, is set to offer an extensive range of parent education classes in the Mid-Columbia region in the coming weeks.

This marks a significant expansion in local educational opportunities for parents and caregivers of children. The parenting education opportunities are being implemented in partnership with GOBHI, Mid Columbia Center for Living, Columbia Gorge Education Service District, Hood River Prevention and Youth Think.

Historically, the Mid-Columbia region has seen limited offerings in parent education, making this initiative by Four Rivers Family Early Learning & Parenting Hub particularly notable. The program encompasses a wide array of classes, addressing diverse aspects of parenting challenges and child development.

One of the key offerings is an 8-week series targeted at parents and caregivers of children aged 0-12. The series, which includes both group and individual sessions, focuses on 'Positive Parenting,' 'Helping Children Develop,' 'Managing Misbehavior,' and 'Planning Ahead.' These classes are scheduled to begin on January 31st and will run every Wednesday from 12-1 pm Pacific Time until March 20th.

Further emphasizing their commitment to addressing diverse parenting needs, Four Rivers Family is also introducing a 6-week Positive Parenting Group Class specifically designed for parents or caregivers of children with anxiety aged 6-18 years. This program, titled 'Fear-Less Triple P,' aims to equip families with strategies and skills to manage anxiety effectively. This course is set to commence on February 6th, 2024.

In addition to these structured programs, the initiative also includes 'Parent Cafes,' which are more informal group settings allowing for peer support and sharing of experiences. The first of these, 'We Are All In This Together,' is scheduled for February 13th, followed by 'I am a Genius: Continuing to Learn' on March 12th.

The initiative also caters to the Spanish-speaking community with '¡Acompáñen en Hood River! EL TRIPLE P: Programa Positivo Padres,' a session planned for March 21st, 2024.

Participants in these programs will receive certificates of attendance along with incentives to encourage and acknowledge their commitment to enhancing their parenting skills.
