The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 22, 2026 — Friends, family and community members are invited to a going-away celebration for JoAn Henricks on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Freebridge Riverfront in The Dalles.
The gathering will give the community an opportunity to say goodbye to Henricks as she prepares to leave The Dalles to begin a new chapter closer to her son and daughter-in-law.
Henricks has deep roots in The Dalles and a lifelong connection to music. She began piano lessons as a young girl and went on to study both mathematics and music in college before embarking on a 25-year engineering career with Hewlett-Packard. After spending 38 years away, she eventually returned to the hometown she had always loved.
Earlier this month, Henricks donated her beloved Chickering grand piano to The Dalles United Church of Christ, ensuring the instrument will continue to bring music to the community for years to come.
The piano will be used for worship services, concerts, community events and gatherings — continuing a musical tradition that has been part of Henricks' life since childhood.
