The 2021 Gorge Artist Open Studios tour showcasing Gorge artists and the spaces in which they create will take place September 17th, 18th, and 19th from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Artists will open their studios to the community to view their displayed artworks over the weekend to build community, promote artistry and spread inspiration.

“It is our mission to advance art and encourage artists in the Columbia River Gorge by building community among artists and the public, promoting art and business education, and providing opportunities for the public to experience and enjoy art,” reads the Gorge Artist Open Studios website.

Painting by Mosier Artist Myrna Anderson

“My acrylic paintings are done in what I call my "stained glass" style where the subject matter is broken up into what I think of as cells. These cells are then painted in with numerous layers of paint giving the appearance of stained glass window.”

Participants can get a map of the self-guided artist's studio tour by downloading the Otocast app for iPhone or Android or by viewing the 2021 Gorge Artist Open Studios Tour Map online.

This year's event features 42 local artists from The Dalles, Mosier, White Salmon, Parkdale, Hood River, and Cascade Locks. The artist's work spans a variety of mediums including, paint, watercolors, ceramics, textiles, glass, sculpture, jewelry, and more.

Watercolor by The Dalles artist Mary Rollins. “Employing the luminous character of watercolor, Mary seeks to capture the natural environment. Subject material may range from rivers and birds, to cattle and wildflowers. Her paintings have been exhibited in local, national, and international shows,” said Gorge Artists Open Studios.

Lifecasting sculpture by Peny Wallace

“We choose the medium we work in because it speaks to us, it has something to reveal about us, what the artist wants to communicate. It describes a certain personal aesthetic quality of what we are and cherish. I work in many sculpting mediums.”

Illustration by Autumn Quigley ”My work is inspired by nature, story, and folkways, and seeks to examine our relationship with the natural world. As an illustrator, I work in a variety of mediums and often allow the narratives carried by the materials to inform the work.”
