This is an Old Woman - Art Exhibit

Columbia Center for the Arts, Hood River

Open Wed-Sun, Noon - 5 p.m.
What does it mean to be an "old woman" today? This exhibition by the Gorge Photography Club challenges stereotypes by celebrating three vibrant women who defy easy categorization.

Inspired by Andrea Carlisle's book There Was an Old Woman, members of the Gorge Photography Club turned their lenses on three remarkable subjects: Mary Soden, a nonagenarian (90-99 yrs) poet; Mo Mos, a septuagenarian (70-79 yrs) artist, writer, and poet; and Mary Sandos, a sexagenarian (60-69 yrs) farmer. Through intimate portraiture, these images reveal the character, creativity, and vitality that define these women's lives. Each photograph invites viewers to look beyond age and see the full complexity of lives still being actively lived and created, asking us to reconsider our assumptions and recognize that being an "old woman" is not a limitation but a continuation of a life rich with purpose, passion, and possibility.

Toubab Krewe carries echoes of African greats like Ali Farka Toure, Orchestra Baobab, and Salif Keita, no doubt picked up during the group's travels to study and live in Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Mali.  But what truly differentiates Toubab Krewe from other Statesiders inspired by African music is how they innovate on what they've learned instead of simply recreating tradition. Toubab Krewe carves out a new trail honoring the African originators they admire by making something alive and contemporary.

On March 27, Hood River steps into new territory.

For the first time, Outbound Wellness will be fully transformed into a Gathering dancefloor—a complete reimagining of the space designed for healing now transformed for sound, movement, and connection. This is not a typical party and not a typical venue setup. It’s one night where intention & healing meets dance music, and the room becomes part of the experience. Jim Rider is a UK-based DJ and producer known for his deep, emotional, and groove-driven sound. He is a resident artist of All Day I Dream, the globally renowned label and event series founded by Lee Burridge—a movement that has helped define melodic and organic house across the world, from Ibiza and London to New York and Tulum. We are committed to bringing the highest quality artists and having a DJ of such a high profile and caliber coming to the Gorge is such a treat.
