China Gorge Restaurant to Close After Nearly 50 Years of Service
From Grace Su:
The Dalles, Ore.,Feb. 5 2025 – After serving Hood River and the Columbia Gorge community for nearly 50 years, Grace Su’s China Gorge Restaurant will close its doors for the final time on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Owner Grace Su has announced her retirement, marking the end of an era for the beloved local institution.
Since its founding in 1978 by then-newlyweds Grace and KokDjen Su, China Gorge has been a treasured local gathering place, known for its authentic Hunan and Szechuan cuisine, made-from-scratch dishes, and warm hospitality. The building itself holds deep roots in Hood River’s history, having been home to a few legendary cafés before becoming the Chinese establishment that so many have come to love. Over the decades, China Gorge has remained a cherished family favorite for generations of locals and visitors, dining alongside beautiful views of the Columbia River.
“After nearly 50 wonderful years of serving this community, I have decided it’s time to retire. This restaurant has been my life’s work, and I am deeply grateful for the incredible support, love, and memories we’ve shared over the decades,” said Grace Su. “As we prepare to say goodbye, I invite you to visit us one last time and celebrate the legacy we’ve built together.”
A Final Thank You
“We would love to see you before we say farewell,” said Grace. “Thank you for being such a meaningful part of this journey—it has been an honor to serve you.”
