The Dalles, Ore., May 28, 2026 — A grass fire burning near Google’s Taylor Lake data Center broke out this morning around 10:30 a.m. immediately drawing first responders and firefighters.

The fire is burning in dry grass along the waterfront and Interstate 84 just west of exit 84.

This is the second time the area has burned in as many years.

The small blaze quickly took off as winds pushed the fire, enveloping multiple acres. It burned several trees. Firefighters were responding and appear to have the fire curbed at 11:35 a.m., and appeared to be mopping up.

The National Weather Service is predicting winds to be 15 to 20 mph in this afternoon with gusts as high as 26 mph, making the job of containment more difficult.

The Weather Service is also calling for a 60% chance of precipitation at around 5 p.m. New precipitation amounts are predicted to be less than a tenth of an inch possible.
