The Dalles, Ore., July 11, 2025 — In their first official meeting, new North Wasco County School District Board Members are set to have an executive session to consider the dismissal or disciplining of, or to hear complaints or charges brought against, a public officer, employee, staff member or individual agent who does not request an open hearing.
Such discussions and names of individuals are held in private to protect the privacy and reputation of the individual involved while allowing the board to discuss sensitive personnel matters candidly.
The meeting is set to be held at The Dalles Middle School Commons on Monday, July 14 at 5:30 p.m.
In Oregon, executive sessions are closed to the public, and no decisions may be made during them. Boards must reconvene to an open public meeting to take any action. Reporters may attend executive sessions but cannot report on discussions. However, they may object if rules are violated and may report on illegal activities observed. These sessions are intended for confidential discussion within the bounds of Oregon’s public meeting laws.
New board members voted into office last May who will be attending their first meeting are David Polehn, Betsy Hege, Katie Kelly and Kevin Kramer.

The Agenda states the “board will Adjourn Executive Session and Re-enter the special school board meeting with the the following:
Action Item (if needed): Items requiring board action based on executive session.”
The special meeting notice also states that the board while in executive session also intends to consult with counsel or attorney concerning the legal rights and duties of a public body with regard to current litigation or litigation likely to be filed.
