Kerry Cobb features artist Amy Sherald in February’s Art News & Activities newsletter.

Amy Sherald is an American painter known for her vivid and colorful portraits of everyday African Americans that she meets on the streets, in cafes, and in her neighborhood. From her upbringing in Georgia, Sherald formed a sense of black identity that she ultimately incorporated into her art. “Acknowledging the performative aspects of race and Southernness, I committed myself to exploring the interiority of Black Americans,” the artist told Smithsonian Magazine in December 2019.
“I wanted to create unseen narratives.”

More on Kerry Cobb and how to receive the newsletter.

Prior to the pandemic, Kerry Cobb brought monthly art presentations and art workshops to senior centers and senior facilities in the Gorge.

“Once we were all quarantined, I started the newsletter and distribute it to those same senior facilities and then send it out to their residents and customers,” she said.

“But anyone who would like to receive the newsletter can also just email me here at kfall@aol.com, and I'll add them to the list.”
