La Salle Prep bests The Dalles Riverhawks in 5A battle
By Xavier Orion-Olaez
The Dalles Riverhawks faced off against La Salle Prep Falcons last Friday night at 7 PM. It was the second game for The Dalles this season and their first loss. First score of the game came quickly within the first 3 minutes into the game with La Salle driving down the field quickly and scoring a touchdown off a pass from senior quarterback Ryan Rosumny. The Dalles defense seemed a little sluggish to start the game but came back firing on offense led by senior quarterback Skyler Leeson and junior wide receiver Jaxon Pullen. The Dalles scored about a minute later with senior Dusty Dodge running it in from the 5 yard line. The Dalles missed the point after and the game's score was 7-6 with the Falcons leading.
The rest of the first quarter was a defensive battle with both teams making stops. La Salle’s offense seems to be more of a run heavy offense mixed in with some wide receiver screens and The Dalles being a mix of runs and short passes. The defense for The Dalles is led by senior Jesse Larson at safety and junior Andrew Savaiinaea. Savaiinaea is a great addition to the Riverhawks this year coming from Eastside Catholic who won a Washington State championship. Playing alongside the nation's number one recruit in the class of 2021 J.T Tuimoloau. Andrew is a 3 star recruit getting offers from Pac 12 schools like University of Oregon and more.
Coming into the third quarter La Salle Prep came in hot. Getting 4 touchdowns in the third quarter and leaving The Dalles scoreless. The Dalles could really do nothing on offense or defense being seemingly frustrated. With the fourth quarter starting the Riverhawks again were held scoreless and La Salle scored one more time and won the game 41-6. Stats for the game are unavailable at this time.
With that loss, The Dalles became 1-1.
There is a home game against 6A team Wilson Trojans on Saturday at 1 PM.
