Local Family Raises Over $48,000 to Save Lake Taco

By Cole Goodwin

Hood River, OR - In November, Lake Taco, an authentic family Mexican restaurant run by Maria and Enrique Ortega, was in danger of closing down forever when health inspectors told them massive repairs at their current location would require them to shut down.

A still from Maria and Enrique’s kickstarter video.

But this family-run restaurant wasn’t going down without a fight.

So, they reached out to the community for help and the community answered.

As of today the Ortega’s have raised over $48,000 with their Kickstarter to help them cover costs or renovation, new equipment, staffing and licensing, as they move into a new location at 606 Oak Street in downtown Hood River.

Lake Taco will be closed until further notice as they move into their new location. And while regulars may to miss out on their favorite homemade fresh-from-scratch foods for a while the family wants the community to know how grateful they are for their support and are working hard to reopen as soon as possible.

“We want to thank all of you guys for helping to support our kickstarter and making our dream a reality. And we look forward to seeing you when we open once again,” said Luis Ortega.
