The Dalles, Ore Aug. 1, 2024 — The Wasco County Public Library in The Dalles transformed into a magical realm on July 31 to celebrate Harry Potter's birthday with an enchanting event that delighted fans of all ages. The date marks the occasion in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” when Harry learns he is a wizard on his 11th birthday.
The library organized an array of themed activities for attendees. A Butterbeer station served the iconic wizarding beverage, and a crafting station offered materials to create paper plate owls, reminiscent of the pets owned by Hogwarts students.
The event also featured a "Room of Requirement" treasure hunt filled with Harry Potter paraphernalia and a trolley cart styled as the Honeydukes Express, where visitors could enjoy candy and chocolate frogs.
The event saw an excellent turnout, with many participants donning costumes that made them look like they had stepped straight out of Hogwarts.
“We wanted to create a magical experience that would bring the community together and allow fans of all ages to celebrate their love for Harry Potter,” said Kirsten Wells, the event coordinator at the library. “Seeing everyone dressed up and engaged in the activities truly made it a magical day. And remember, when in doubt, go to the library.”
This successful event highlighted the enduring popularity of the Harry Potter series, demonstrating how J.K. Rowling’s world of wizards and magic continues to inspire and captivate audiences.
