Here is an excerpt from the Feb. 18 Wasco County Commissioner meeting discussing the newest proposal with Google to build 2 data centers and bring as much as $126 million to the local community.

Commissioners are set to weigh in on the proposal this morning, March 3, during their regular meeting.

“Are there any Indians that would benefit from this taxation of this land?” Lana Jack asked Commissioners two weeks ago. “Indian people live in extreme poverty up and down the river. Some of this money disbursed should be to the betterment of our community that lives without power or water - this is territory of the Wascopam people.”

Resident Bruce Lumper was in agreement at that meeting.

“I strongly support Lana Jack’s request that the tax funds payment be directed to the indigenous community in our area... Lone Pine is a great place to start.”
