Man of the Stone: Valle stacking up a clean look on 8th & Kelly

Man of the Stone: Valle stacking up a clean look on 8th & Kelly

The Dalles, Ore., March 1, 2024 — Superman Santiago Valle, 47, of The Dalles was lifting a ton of concrete this morning at the corner of 8th and Kelly streets in The Dalles as he leveled out and stacked 60-pound Manner Stones along the side of the 1910 Craftsman home owned by Gary Wart.

The retaining wall is part of the overall improvements Wart is doing as he maintains the house.

Wart said the house was divided into several apartments and he even had one coming available.

“I bought this place from Joe Stewart several years ago,” the 45-year-old said.

“But even before that when I was 18, I rented the upstairs apartment for $300.”

Temperatures were in the 30s today as old man winter continues to keep his claws embedded in our neck of the country. Lows are predicted to be in the 20s for the next few days and highs in the 40s. Keep that coat handy.

Below, signs of spring are well underway at The Dalles Art Center.
