Maupin Chamber launches GoFundMe for Volunteer Firefighters at Larch Creek Fire

The Dalles, Ore., July 15, 2024 — As volunteer firefighters enter their seventh day of battling the 18,000-acre Larch Creek Fire, they can expect a smaller paycheck for their hard work.

That’s because they are volunteers and often take time off work to help fight fires that threaten their communities, neighbors and friends.

Jordan Belozer with the Maupin Chamber of Commerce recently set up a GoFundMe after people around the state started calling in wanting to donate to folks who have been hit hard by the fire.

“There are four local volunteer fire departments fighting it,” Belozer said today, July 15. “Fire departments get funded for equipment, but the firefighters are all volunteers.”

In fact, most take time off from work to fight fire.

“That is what we’re trying to address,” Belozer said.

Jeff Platt with GoFundMe just recently sent CCCNews an email alerting us to the fundraiser.

“As you continue to cover the Larch Creek Fire in South Wasco County, I want to draw your attention to the below GoFundMe started to support the many volunteer firefighters putting their lives on the line to stop the blaze,” he wrote. “The fundraiser, which benefits the Maupin Area Chamber Endowment, has raised $4,000.”
