Mid-Columbia Houseless Collaborative Hosts Free Community Screeningof "No Place to Grow Old" Documentary

The Dalles, Ore., Oct. 28, 2025 — The Mid-Columbia Houseless Collaborative announces a free community screening of No Place to Grow Old, a documentary film that captures a growing crisis unfolding quietly across America: older adults aging into houselessness. The event will take place on November 6, 2025, at 6:30 PM at The Granada Theatre, located at 221 E 2nd Street in The Dalles.

This powerful documentary by Humans for Housing sheds light on an often-overlooked aspect of the housing crisis, examining the challenges faced by senior citizens who find themselves without stable housing in their later years. The film offers an important perspective on a demographic experiencing houselessness at increasing rates nationwide and in our own Mid-Columbia region.

"Houselessness affects people of all ages, but older adults face unique vulnerabilities and barriers," said Kai Burgess Nichols, member of MCHC and Older Adult Behavioral Health Coordinator at Greater Oregon Behavioral Health. Inc. (GOBHI) "This screening provides an opportunity for our community to better understand this crisis and come together to explore solutions that support our most vulnerable neighbors."

The evening will include a free dinner for the first 150 attendees, a moderated discussion with members of the Houseless Collaborative, and the film screening. This format creates space for community members to hear local stories and perspectives, learn about local programs working to address this crisis, and find ways to be involved in meeting the needs of our community.

The Mid-Columbia Houseless Collaborative (MCHC) is a partnership bringing together 40 local organizations dedicated to addressing houselessness across Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, Klickitat, and Skamania counties. MCHC envisions a region with equitable opportunities and support, where everyone who needs stable housing can find and afford it— especially communities who have faced disproportionate barriers to housing—so everyone can achieve the best quality of life possible.

The event is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend to learn more about this important issue and participate in the conversation about supporting community members experiencing houselessness in the Mid-Columbia region. Donations of shelf-stable food items for MCCAC’s The Annex will be accepted at the door.

This event is sponsored by Greater Oregon Behavioral Health, Inc. (GOBHI), Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) and The Granada Theatre.
