Murder, Mystery, and Chocolate: The Dalles Library Hosts ‘Death by Chocolate’ Event
By Joshuah Albert
The Dalles, Ore., Feb. 21, 2025 – A high-society soirée turned into a night of suspense Wednesday, Feb. 19, as The Dalles-Wasco County Library hosted its Art Deco-inspired murder mystery, Death by Chocolate.
Guests donned their best 1920s attire and indulged in decadent chocolates—until tragedy struck.
The evening’s plot took a dark turn when Jordan Ganache met an untimely end, the apparent victim of an exploding chocolate truffle. With 20 participants stepping into their roles as eccentric high-society figures, the room quickly filled with intrigue, deception, and a dash of friendly suspicion.
As the investigation unfolded, guests pieced together alibis, uncovered secrets, and exchanged theories on the culprit’s identity. After a series of clever deductions and dramatic accusations, the murderer was unmasked—Logan Cocoa-Bean, whose carefully guarded secrets finally came to light.
“It was fun to see everyone get into their characters and embrace the mystery—and the chocolate,” said event host Abbey “Truffleheart.” “We had a fantastic group, as always. I can’t wait to host another event like this in the future.”
The immersive storyline and intricate web of clues were designed by Abbey, with a little help from ChatGPT, to create a thrilling experience for all. The evening was filled with laughter, surprises, and, of course, plenty of chocolate.
For those who missed the intrigue, the library has more mysteries brewing. Two Sherlock Holmes-themed events are scheduled for April, along with an encore presentation of Death by Chocolate this summer. Aspiring detectives are encouraged to investigate future events—before the next crime is committed.
